COUNTDOWN TO OUR FOREVER

Our Love Story

From a simple greeting to a lifetime of love.

Every love story has a beginning, and ours began at Eternal Glory Church in 2024, in a way neither of us could have imagined would lead us here.

When Clifford joined the church’s media team, Mmabatho was already serving in the same department. On his very first day, during the 07:30 service, Clifford greeted Mmabatho for the first time. It was a simple greeting, one of those ordinary moments that could easily have been forgotten, but little did we know that it would become the beginning of our story.

Later that same day, our paths crossed again. Mmabatho’s friend was moving places, and Clifford, who had a van, volunteered to help with the move. Mmabatho was a quiet girl who did not say much while everyone was busy moving boxes. She eventually had to leave to return to church for the 11:30 service, where she was serving. At the time, it was just another ordinary day, but something about Mmabatho had caught Clifford’s attention. Curious to know more about the quiet girl he had met, Clifford began asking his friend about her.

From then on, we would see each other at church, exchange greetings and occasionally have conversations. At first, our conversations were purely platonic, often centred around our careers, work and the things happening in our lives. Mmabatho had recently joined a new company, and these conversations gave us an opportunity to learn a little more about each other. There was no rush, no grand romantic gesture, just two people gradually becoming familiar with one another.

Then came a Wednesday after church that would change the direction of our story. Mmabatho shared her sermon notes on Instagram, and Clifford commented on the post. What seemed like a small interaction turned into a conversation, and one conversation led to another. Before we knew it, we were talking more often, learning about each other’s personalities, sharing our thoughts and discovering how much we enjoyed speaking to one another.

As our conversations continued, Clifford suggested that we go bowling and have ice cream together. There was just one small problem: Mmabatho was away on a vacation trip with her family. But when she returned, she let Clifford know, and the plans finally came together. Our bowling and ice cream outing became the beginning of a friendship that would grow into something much more meaningful. What started as two people spending time together to get to know each other slowly became something we both looked forward to.

Before long, spending time together became part of our routine. Fridays often meant going out for lunch after work, sometimes finding a restaurant where we could sit, eat and talk for hours. Saturdays became another opportunity to meet, enjoy lunch and spend more time in each other’s company. And when we were not together in person, we were talking on the phone, having conversations that seemed to make time pass without us even noticing.

We also began doing more fun activities together, creating memories and discovering new things about each other along the way. What made our connection special was not just the places we went or the things we did, but the conversations, the laughter and the comfort we found in simply being together. Little by little, friendship created a foundation for a deeper connection, and the girl who had once been so quiet during that moving day became someone Clifford wanted to know more and more.

Looking back, it is beautiful to see how our story unfolded. Clifford had a van and volunteered to help a friend move. Mmabatho had a church service to attend. There was a greeting during the 07:30 service, a quiet girl who caught someone’s attention, a few conversations at church, and an Instagram comment on a Wednesday evening. None of these moments seemed extraordinary on their own, yet each one played a part in bringing us closer.

We believe that God often works through the simplest moments and the most unexpected encounters. What began in His house, surrounded by a shared faith and a desire to serve, gradually grew into a friendship, a love and a vision for a future together. Through our journey, we have come to appreciate that love is not only found in the big moments, but also in the everyday conversations, the thoughtful gestures, the laughter and the willingness to keep choosing one another.

Today, as we prepare to become husband and wife, we look back with grateful hearts. We are thankful for the way our paths crossed, for the friendship that gave our relationship its foundation, for the memories we have created and for the love that has brought us to this beautiful chapter of our lives.

Our story began with a simple greeting at church and grew through conversations, bowling dates, ice cream, lunch outings and countless moments spent getting to know each other. Now, by God’s grace, we look forward to a lifetime of creating new memories, growing together in faith and building a home founded on love, commitment and purpose.
